Coverage maps are easy. Attending is not.
Plenty of door companies list every city in southern Ontario on their website. Ask them to attend a building in Hamilton on a Tuesday and the answer changes.
The Ontario Fire Code now requires monthly inspection of doors in fire separations. Across a portfolio that is not one visit a year, it is twelve visits per building. A company covering half the province cannot do that reliably, whatever its map claims.
So we keep to the corridor from Toronto through to Hamilton. It means we can commit to attending when we say we will, and it means travel is not quietly inflating your invoice.
Two fire services, two cultures
The GTHA is not one jurisdiction. Toronto Fire Services, Hamilton Fire Department, Mississauga Fire and the rest each enforce the Fire Code with their own practice and emphasis.
Knowing what a particular fire prevention officer looks for is not something you get from reading the regulation. It comes from working the same region repeatedly.
